Screenbuzz – Writer and Editor.

Hi there! I’m James Eastope, and I run this film and TV review blog. I’ve always been passionate about watching movies. However, I don’t consider myself a ‘movie expert.’ I believe that with any form of art, everyone sees something different. If you think the Spice Girls Movie is great, then it is great and there’s no need to change your mind. This blog reflects my personal opinions on the films and TV shows that have either impressed me or conversely, left me disappointed.

Why I Started This Blog

Back in 2022, I graduated with a Masters degree in Creative Writing. I chose this subject because I am fascinated with how to tell a great story. I’ve spent my whole life watching movies, you would think that I would know by now how to write one myself. Of course, it’s hard. And sometimes you need to look at the mechanics under the story to figure out how or why things work. Or to put it clearly what are the elements needed to entertain a reader or a viewer. When I watch a movie I have two mindsets: turn off the brain and become submerged in the story or analyse what is or isn’t great and try to articulate why. Its very easy to say, ‘that films sucks’ but explaining why it sucks can be an art-form in itself.

What this blog Isn’t

Sometimes i’m curious about what other people think about something and ill read a review. Some people make some compelling arguments and its satisfying to read or listen to a new interpretation. Some blogs are also quite toxic and to make the negative review more entertaining, the opinion is exagerrated with perhaps over the top language – which at times, is funny as hell. However there are people out there who are doing an amazing job pointing out certain modern train wrecks, especially the nonsense coming out of Marvel these days. So, this blog will be focusing, for the majority, on looking at a film or Tv show that has stuck with me and i will attempt to articulate why that has happened.
