New Workshop Series, Screen Buzz, Launches in the Arab World with Hollywood Talent
For the first time in the Arab world, Screen Buzz – a series of creative cinematic workshops powered by AAM – brings top Hollywood talent to the region, helping to support local storytellers as they create compelling, original Arabic drama and entertainment content. Screen Buzz is building an unprecedented opportunity for a new generation of young creatives in the Arab world to tell their stories.
By engaging top talent from the U.S. entertainment industry, Screen Buzz offers the rare chance for selected participants to learn firsthand from Hollywood experts in the fields of screenwriting, directing and producing.
“We’re thrilled to be launching Screen Buzz here in Jordan and across the Arab world” said Dr. Aaron Lobel, founder and president of AAM. “We hope these workshops will help empower local voices by bringing the best creative talent from Hollywood to support authentic storytelling in Jordan and beyond.”
Screen Buzz workshops are held under the supervision of AAM’s Middle East Advisory Council, which includes seven of the most prominent Arab figures in the film and TV industry: H.E. Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development (UAE); H.E. Princess Rym Ali, Founder of the Jordan Media Institute (Jordan); actress Yousra (Egypt); actress and director Nadine Labaki (Lebanon); actress and producer Saba Mubarak (Jordan); Ali Jaber, Group TV Director MBC (UAE); and actress Hend Sabry (Tunisia).
"Despite all the growth and sophistication of the entertainment industry in the Arab world in recent years, the industry is still in need of greater professional guidance from international experts,” said Middle East Advisory Council member Saba Mubarak. “The field is no longer dependent solely on talent, including acting, which is my profession, so I feel proud to be a part of this initiative that will significantly contribute to the development of the industry and mentorship of burgeoning talent across the Arab world".
In order to fulfill this step in the Arab world, AAM has joined hands with MAD Solutions and partnered with its Arab Cinema Center (ACC), organized by MAD.
In 2018, Screen Buzz will be devoted to sharpening the skills of screenwriters from across the Arab world. The initiative will launch in Amman, Jordan, on April 29, 2018, with a workshop focused on screenwriting for TV in partnership with the Royal Film Commission (RFC) of Jordan. The multiday workshop will be led by three TV industry experts from Hollywood who have already achieved global successes: Executive Producer Lindsay Goffman (The Good Doctor), Writer and Producer Mark Goffman (Bull | The West Wing) and Writer and Producer Daniel Knuaf (Supernatural | Spartacus: Blood and Sand).
Screen Buzz follows a multifaceted approach in all its group sessions and workshop activities to ensure that participants actively engage with the Hollywood talent to exchange professional ideas and experiences. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to practice pitching their projects to the Hollywood mentors during one-on-one meetings. An essential aspect of Screen Buzz is establishing an ongoing dialogue between the participants and Hollywood mentors, which extends beyond the workshops and helps to ensure further development of the participants’ projects and opportunities for potential collaboration.
Beginning Thursday, April 5th, applicants can submit their eligible projects for consideration through the Screen Buzz website (http://screenbuzz.org/
). Applications will be reviewed by the Screen Buzz Committee on a rolling basis.
