M Media and America Abroad Media (AAM) Host Beirut Screenwriting Workshop with Top Hollywood Creatives
Cairo/ Amman | September 19, 2017:
M.media, the Lebanese entertainment platform dedicated to digitizing our culture and showcasing a wide range of content from or about Lebanon and the wider Middle East for audiences worldwide, hosted its first ever Beirut Screenwriting Workshop on September 3-6 at its headquarters in Quantum House in Beirut. The workshop was held in partnership with America Abroad Media (AAM), a Washington, DC based nonprofit organization that seeks to empower and support local voices that convey universal values through creative content and media programming.

The workshop was led by top Hollywood storytellers:
• Tim Clemente, writer on hit series including NCIS Los Angeles, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, and The Unit.
• David Zucker, writer, director and creator of groundbreaking comedies including Airplane! and The Naked Gun series.
The workshop provided burgeoning local artists with the opportunity to refine their skills and gain practical knowledge from experts who have succeeded in the entertainment industry. Participants represented all mediums, including independent narrative features, short films, and episodic series.

AAM worked closely with M.media to select promising filmmakers and screenwriters, who have projects under development, to participate in the workshop. "M.media is an ideal partner because of its deep knowledge of the entertainment industry in Lebanon and breadth of understanding of the challenges facing young storytellers there," stated AAM founder and President Aaron Lobel.

During the four-day workshop, participants learned tricks of the trade from their Hollywood mentors, who provided direct feedback on how to improve their own writing and scripts. In addition, the industry professionals imparted real life experience on how to navigate the business side of screenwriting and filmmaking.

Upon the conclusion of the workshop, a cocktail reception was held with the broader Lebanese creative community to provide an opportunity for creative and professional networking with both the internationally acclaimed mentors and Lebanese entertainment industry insiders.

The Beirut Screenwriting Workshop also sought to enhance the knowledge and skill set of the individual local artists and to improve the competencies of the Lebanese TV and filmmaking industry as a whole. AAM and M.media hope that this workshop will be the first of many held in Beirut, and serve as an example for future initiatives that seek to serve the creative and professional development of Lebanon’s entertainment industry.
